(n. 15 oct. 1915, Ruzinov, Polonia, Imperio ruso).

Estadista israelí de origen polaco. En 1935 emigró a Palestina, donde ayudó a fundar la organización Combatientes por la libertad de Israel, conocida más tarde como la pandilla de Stern. Arrestado en dos ocasiones por las autoridades británicas (1941, 1946), escapó ambas veces y finalmente se asiló en Francia. Tras la independencia de Israel, sirvió como agente del servicio secreto hasta 1965. Fue presidente del Knesset (1977–80) y más tarde ministro de asuntos exteriores de Menahem Begin (1980–83). En 1983, se convirtió en primer ministro. En 1984, una elección sin resultados decisivos lo llevó a compartir el poder con el líder del Partido Laborista, Shimon Peres, y ocupó el cargo de primer ministro durante seis años a partir de 1986. En este período hubo otra elección sin resultados concluyentes, en 1988, y en 1990 se formó un gobierno de coalición que perdió el poder en 1992. Se retiró del Knesset en 1996.
